It’s June. Not much left before the 2021-22 season wraps up. Predictions for the 2021-22 season The predictions below were performed without the data for game 3 of the Eastern Finals. The Lightning won that game 3-2. The table below gives the Rangers a 86.7% probability of winning the East but effectively it is lower than that given the Lightning’s win. Still, the Rangers are the favorite to win the series, quite a reversal from before that series started.

One more game to play and the second round is over. If the Hurricanes win, my model will have had a 50% success rate in the second round. The Lightning and the Oilers played much better than expected. The Blues fought hard but the loss of Jordan Bennington certainly did not help. We’re about halfway through the second round and my model might not fare as well at predicting winners this time around. I did not expect the Lightning to come out of the first round that strong. It’s disappointing for Florida who have marginal chance of winning the series now, being down 0-3.

The one exception was the Maple Leafs vs. the Lightning where the model gave a tiny edge to the Leafs. Effectively it was a toss-up, so I can’t say the model forecasted the winner of that series wrong.

We’ve had a lot of goals scored in these playoffs, with many games being routes. However, with teams winning by many goals and then loosing the next game by just as many, most series are close. It’s finally the playoffs. We have good match-ups in the first round and I’m hoping for a couple of 7-game series.
