NHL predictions and rankings - April 2, 2021

Montreal has resumed its season and will play a tight schedule for the rest of the season. Some games were reported for the Canucks. Nonetheless, it seems that all games will be played.

Predictions

There are a few shifts in the predicted rankings. The model weighs more heavily recent games and depends on goals for and against. Teams who recently won games by several goals tend to jump up in the predicted standings. This is the case for Montreal who won its last two games 4-0 and 4-1. The model yields predictions that are different, but still similar to other model-based predictions you can find on the web.

North

Montreal jumped at the top but it could be exagerated because the team is rested, coming for a forced break, and fatigue will be a factor for the rest of the season with the dense schedule.

West

There is really only one playoff spot left in that division. The Kings seem in good position to claim it.

Central

The Stars and the Predators will continue to battle for the last playoff spot in the Central division.

East

I suspect the Rangers could make a run for a playoff spot. Teams will have to battle until the end in the East.
