NHL predictions and rankings - April 16, 2023
The regular season is over and its playoff time. Finally, I hoping for a lot of good hockey.
Predictions for the 2022-23 season
The Bruins are the big favourite, no surprised there. According to the model, the probability they will win the Cup is 44%, which is huge.
Let’s look at the first round individual match-ups.
Bruins (88.9%) vs Panthers (11.1%): The Bruins will win, but I doubt it will be in 4 as the Panthers have been good of late.
Maple Leafs (73.6%) vs Lightning (26.4%): That won’t be easy for the Leafs. I think they will finally break through the first round but it’s going to be tough against of seasoned Lightning team.
Hurricanes (64.8%) vs Islanders (35.2%): The Hurricanes clearly have the better team, but they don’t have the best goalie. That could make that series interesting.
Devils (41.7%) vs Ranger (58.3%): That’s the one series where the away team is favourite to win. The Rangers have been better lately and I think they’ll win.
Avalanche (64.1%) vs Kraken (35.9%): I don’t see the Avalanche having too much trouble getting through the Kraken.
Stars (65.5%) vs Wild (34.5%): I don’t expect it will be all that easy for the Stars.
Golden Knights (71.4%) vs Jets (28.6%): I do not see the Golden Knights have too much trouble, although I don’t see the Jets falling in four.
Oilers (67.9%) vs Kings (32.1%): The Oilers will score a lot of goals, I don’t think the Kings can do much about that.
