NHL predictions and rankings - November 30, 2022
Finally, I got around running my model for the 2022-23 season. It’s the same model as last year except that I also include information from last season, although the weight given to it is small.
Predictions for the 2022-23 season
The Bruins have started the season strong and currently have the best odds of winning the Cup. Surprisingly, the top ten includes the Devils and the Kraken. We will see if they continue their strong play.
The Canadiens have started the season much better than anyone expected. However, their odds of making the playoffs is near zero. Their wins have come in close games, but they’ve also had several bad losses.

Power ranking
As expected, the Bruins are on top. I’m surprised to see the Penguins in the top ten as I did not think they have been playing that well this year.
The Canadiens winning close games but loosing badly shows up in the power ranking. They are in 28th position in the power ranking even though they currently play for about .500.
